The Passionate Gesture-Rita Blitt

$15.00 USD Rita Blitt

From the time she could pick up a crayon, painter/sculptor Rita Blitt has not stopped making art. Her creative journey, spanning more than 60 years, has encompassed many mediums and processes: from the discovery that her drawings can become sculpture up to 60 feet tall to the realization that her black lines flow more powerfully from two hands at once -- and later that color can be added in the same manner. The Passionate Gesture traces Blitt's development as an artist. When she was first introduced to abstract expressionism, she questioned this new art form. However, through the creation of sculpture her freedom from subject matter evolved -- she began "dancing on paper." Blitt embraced this gestural style, creating drawings, paintings and monumental sculptures that have been exhibited, collected and permanently installed internationally. Creating with a passionate gesture continues to be Blitt's delight and an inspiration to others. In addition to the 231 reproductions of her work, a time line of Blitt's life and a personal interview share the stories behind some of her most cherished pieces.
