One-of-a-kind oversized shirt made from 19th century vintage linen, with art by Brazilian artists Fernando and Humberto Campana.
THE CONCEPT OF THE PROJECT WAS INSPIRED BY THE PAINTING 'OPERÁRIOS' (LABOURERS) BY TARSILA DO AMARAL. HER ARTWORK (1933) ILLUSTRATES THE LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE, WHO CAME TO WORK IN THE FACTORIES OF BRAZIL IN THE 1930, AND THEIR RACIAL DIVERSITY. FOR THE SHIRT, THE CAMPANA BROTHERS WANTED TO ILLUSTRATE THIS VARIETY OF CULTURE AND ETHNICITY THAT REPRESENTS SÃO PAULO, SHOWING INDIANS, BLACKS, ASIANS, CAUCASIANS, CHILDREN, OLD MEN, WOMEN. THE FACES OF THE CAMPANAS ARE MIXED IN THE CROWD. EACH PIECE IS MADE OUT FROM AN EMBROIDERY MACHINE OPERATED BY ARTISANS FROM SÃO PAULO AND FINISHED BY THE ESTUDIO CAMPANA.”
Particular is the view of Brazil from Estudio Campana, for the two celebrated designers at its helm, Fernando and Humberto Campana, see their country not only as it is, but as it could be. As globalisation swallows up local aesthetic identities all across the planet into a confused potpourri, these brothers, on the contrary, dare to imagine a 21st-century Brazil prouder than ever of its distinct, eclectic narrative. No simple mission, but nothing is impossible when the Campanas’ thoroughly modern furniture, textile and spatial designs join forces with the Brazilian vernacular know-how, nurtured by craftspeople across the land. And now, the brothers are letting KILOMETRE in on the view, as much inward as outward. Indeed, the Brazil of the Campanas isn’t only one of addresses (though that it is too); it is also one of the mind, brought to life by the brothers’ inner worlds. So it is on this bidirectional journey that we set out, and we saved a spot especially for you. Remember, this voyage will give birth to anotherone; now members of our Club des Voyageurs, the Campanas have graciously agreed for profits from this collaboration to go toward a young person’s dream trip, through the Zellidja Foundation, an organization that makes traveling and experiencing the world possible for the next generation. These voyages require autonomy and strength, upon return the participants are prepared to transform the world.
This shirt is hand-made; similar to the techniques used to create haute couture, and it comes with a passport (a travel guide matching the destination of the product + booklet about the brand and its history) and a “second skin”.
