An Important Announcement ✨ Matriark Sag Harbor (Archive January 2nd, 2025)
What's Next For Us 💫
IT'S A WRAP IN SAG!
Hi there, and Happy New Year!
I wanted to take a moment to share our latest news about Matriark and how we are evolving in 2025.
Some of you know that my father passed away last August, and how his passing had a profound impact on me. It made me reflect even more deeply on how I spend my time, especially with my children who are now 13 and 11 years old, and the work I want to focus on. After five wonderful years in Sag Harbor, I’ve made the difficult decision to close our shop to live a lighter, freer, and more present life. This change will allow me to spend more time with my family while dedicating more meaningful time to projects where I can make the greatest impact.
One of those projects is this weekly newsletter, which we re-launched in January 2024. It’s been growing beautifully (there are now over 22,000 readers among you - thank you!), so I'm excited to pour more energy into expanding this part of Matriark and serve you in new ways. Unlike a physical storefront, this newsletter allows us to spotlight countless products, services, and brands from women and LGBTQI+-owned businesses, reaching far beyond what our shop could ever achieve. I’m grateful you are a subscriber, and I can tell you that it will only get better, fuller and more unique in 2025 - more on this soon! In addition to our digital newsletter, you will be seeing more of me on social media with special guests, and we will continue to host IRL events and salons in different spaces (stay tuned for that)– we love our community and will continue to host gatherings to stay in touch in a more personal way.
Of course, closing the store is bittersweet. This stunning Victorian building has been so much more than a brick-and-mortar shop. It’s where so many Designers, Artists and Founders (including me) met some of our closest friends, and got discovered by amazing editors, discerning shoppers, and unique stores from all over the world. Over 400,000 people have visited us in the last 5 years, and were delighted to learn about our mission, purpose, and community. And the icing on the cake: we got to raise money for organizations like the Hamptons Community Outreach, i-tri, The Retreat - All Against Abuse and Ms. Foundation For Women, among many others. Running a creative retail space filled with products from women- and LGBTQI+-owned companies has been incredibly fulfilling, a proud milestone in my personal life and career, and an experience I will never forget.
Along the way, I discovered that my desire to help designers, creatives and artists grow their businesses and connect with the right partners and customers can be done in a multitude of ways – and a retail store is just one of them. As an entrepreneur, it’s hard to let go of something I put so much love into it, but I believe in ending things on a high note, instead of waiting for things to grow sour. So I plan to continue my work through the newsletter, my advisory and consulting work (which I have done for IGUATEMI in the past 15 years, and for a few other independent brands which I serve on advisory boards in the last few years), and as an investor in select projects going forward. I want to use my background in retail, merchandising, and entrepreneurship to support more businesses globally. If you are interested in discussing your needs, or know someone who does, please feel free to contact me directly or share my email info@matriark.com.
Our store is closed for the winter, and we will permanently close our doors on January 15th. We are finalizing details to transfer the building to people I got to know and admire, and a new announcement will go out soon. I’m excited that this special space will continue to thrive in great hands! We will open JANUARY 11th and 12th (Saturday and Sunday) for a final sale (this will include some great fixtures as well, so if you are in the area, come say hi!).
Thank you for the bottom of my heart for always supporting me and for shopping at Matriark Sag Harbor. Life means constant change and growth, I’m honored you have been here for this ride with me since we started in 2019, and I hope you will continue for many years to come. A very special thanks to all of the brands who have been part of Matriark, especially the ones who started with us in 2019 such as Sold Out NYC, Pamela Love, Sofia Sanchez de Betak (previous Chufy, now The Journey Within),Sarpi, Teressa Foglia, Daphne Verley, Adriana Degreas, Amrose , Lulu Frost, Seven All Around, and ByVlada. Most of these women knew nothing about me, and trusted that I would showcase them in the best light - I will never forget that. A heartfelt thank you to Andrey and Melissa, my PR super power duo, who worked tirelessly to put Matriark and every brand who was part of our collective on the map. And a super special thanks to my friends Francesca Hayslett, Jennifer O'Brien, Jennifer Waverek and Kathleen Boyes who helped me decide the name of my business, and have held my hand through this entire process of starting a brand, opening a store and everything in between; to my friend Gabriela Saldanha, who dreamt with me about the brands that we could invite to our store and helped me get those dreams off the ground, my friend and artist Beata Pankiewicz, who helped me bring so much soul into our store facade decorations, my dear friends Carlos Jereissati Filho and Daniela Pizetta for their friendship and support, and my husband Ron whose architect and artist's eye is always invaluable in everything we do (not to mention his big heart and unbelievable patience). Now onwards with a new year, and an always evolving Matriark. ❤️
Here is to new beginnings, and to a very happy, healthy, intentional, and successful 2025!
Lots of love,
Patricia
