Hi there,
My daughter Sophie will be 9 years old this Saturday, which means cake, candles, and a quarantine birthday party with no guests (and this time, per her request, both Ron and I are making the cake. Cross your fingers). It's been almost 9 years since I've first been called "mom", and so much has changed since. And yet, a lot hasn't. While I have countless dreams that now revolve around my 2 kids and a husband, I also have others that don't. I've been reading the book "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle (highly, highly recommend it), and she said this: "A responsible mother is not one who slowly dies for her children, but one who shows her children how to bravely live. It’s about how I stopped being a martyr and started being a model." To me this implies that by living our lives fully and not erasing ourselves for the sake of our children, we are also mothering ourselves. Well, I'll drink to that! 🙌
Being a mother has many meanings to different people. To me, it's a call to action. It's to mother someone, and to access the mother within to nurture someone or something - and not a name that's tied to children, biology or gender. Who has mothered you in your life? Your biological mom? Your best friend? Your grandmother? Yourself?
Whoever they are, it's time to celebrate them! Yes, I know: every day is Mother's Day (can somebody tell my kid? they clearly didn't get the memo). This special date is going to be very different this year, but I hope you can celebrate it with the people you love, even if just by Zoom (don't forget to put your pants on or adjust the camera though - did you see what happened to reporter Will Reeve on Good Morning America? 🤦♀️ If you didn't, we have a link below under "funny things" and we'll file this under NEVER EVER DO THIS WHILE ON VIDEO CALLS ).
If you are in search for gifts, I put together a few suggestions for all the moms out there - especially the mother in you. ❤️ Check our edit below to buy it for the moms in your lives, or send the links as your personal wish lists - when you shop with us, we send 10% of our sales to The Southampton Hospital Foundation and The East Hampton Meals on Wheels.
If you live in the Hamptons, we offer Matriark To Go and free delivery ( just make a note at checkout and we will contact you). And shipping is on us for all orders. Thank you for your support!
PS: of course I added a few funny things about a mom's life too. Because mothering people is serious business, and we need all the help we can get.
xx,
Patricia
