Key Coral Designs
A life long beachcomber, surfer, boater, snorkeler and ocean lover, Kerri Topping learned the handcrafted art of black coral jewelry from a magically creative grandmother on a tiny island in the Bahamas. The beauty of the black coral jewelry inspired Kerri to combine a love for handicraft with her passion to protect our natural environment
One-of-a-kind pieces of black coral, found washed up on beaches by the artist, are painstakingly hand-polished to a high luster and transformed into fine jewelry and objets d’art that bring the magnificence of the oceans into our lives.
Black coral, also known as “Black Magic” and “King Coral,” has been used for centuries in medicine, jewelry and charms because of its perceived power to ward off evil and sickness. Dating back thousands of years, pieces of black coral jewelry were discovered in King Tut’s tomb.
As a result of carbon emissions, global and ocean warming, combined with human contamination, coral reefs that have flourished for 50 million years could be dead in less than 80 years.
To help save our precious reefs, Key Coral Designs donates a portion of all proceeds to the Coral Restoration Foundation.
