Karina Olsen

Full Bio

Passionate about stones and graduated in Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America, in New York, where she also studied Jewelry Design, Karina Olsen launches Olsen K, her first solo project after seven years at the helm of Studio Cocoon.

At the same time that she felt fulfilled by the beauty and history of the stones, the desire to contribute and do more for the world motivated Karina to create a project with purpose. For years, in parallel with jewelry design, she volunteered in shelters, but there came a time when that alone was not enough. She decided to unite his greatest passions: stones, design and social work. 

“Years of experience creating pieces with a variety of metals and precious stones, added to my training in Gemology, allowed me to look more comprehensively at what I was doing.

On the one hand, the possibility of expressing creativity through something I love, participating in some of the most special moments in people's lives and the appreciation and receptivity of the market.

On the other hand, a growing discomfort with the way gems are treated in their shape and consumption process - high disposal, no appreciation of the professionals involved in the production chain and the overestimation of size and quantity, and not of design, of the history of each jewel.

"This restlessness made me question how my love for gemology and design could serve the planet in a more just, conscious and profound way, sharing, through the beauty and process of each jewel, some of the lessons and opportunities I had. ” 

Thus was born Olsen K.
